چکیده

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia AAP56, laccase-producing bacteria, growing under different conditions, exhibit laccase activity that is highly affected by some environmental factors. Response surface methodology (RSM) was applied for the determination of laccase factor dependence using two substrates: ABTS (2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6sulfonic acid)) and DMP (2,6 Dimethoxy-phenol). RSM was carried out with a 2 factorial design using four variables, namely, dye (0 to 0.1 mg mL), Cu in Med (0 to 400 μM), shaking (0 to 150 rpm), and CuSO4 in assay (0 to 0.2 mM). Significant correlation between the effects of these variables on R1 (ABTS oxidase activity) and R2 (DMP oxidase activity) responses was detected. Astonishing results showed differences between these two activities with respect to copper activity dependence. Anoxic conditions exhibited a significant ability to induce the enzyme. This bacterial laccase activity (produced under optimal conditions according to RSM) was used to decolorize an azoic dye, Reactive Black 5 (RB5). It was efficient only in the presence of a redox mediator to degrade RB5 after 20 min of incubation time.

A Linkage between SmeIJK Efflux Pump, Cell Envelope Integrity, and σE-Mediated Envelope Stress Response in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia

Resistance nodulation division (RND) efflux pumps, such as the SmeIJK pump of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, are known to contribute to the multidrug resistance in Gram-negative bacteria. However, some RND pumps are constitutively expressed even though no antimicrobial stresses occur, implying that there should be some physical implications for these RND pumps. In this study, the role of SmeIJK ...

Prevalence of antibiotic resistance and integrons, sul and Smqnr genes in clinical isolates of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia from a tertiary care hospital in Southwest Iran

Objective(s): Stenotrophomonas maltophilia has emerged as an important opportunistic nosocomial pathogen due to its intrinsic and acquired resistance to a wide range of antimicrobial agents. The present study aimed to investigate the occurrence of antibiotic resistance and resistance mechanisms among clinical isolates of S. maltophilia from Iranian patients.<...

Draft Genome Sequence of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Strain B418, a Promising Agent for Biocontrol of Plant Pathogens and Root-Knot Nematode

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strain B418 was isolated from a barley rhizosphere in China. This bacterium exhibits broad-spectrum inhibitory activities against plant pathogens and root-knot nematode along with growth-promoting effects. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of S. maltophilia B418.

Biodegradation of α-endosulfan via hydrolysis pathway by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia OG2

Stenotrophomonas maltophilia OG2 was isolated from the intestine of cockroaches that was collected from a cow barn contaminated some pesticides belong to pyrethroid and organochlorine groups. OG2 was able to degrade α-endosulfan in non sulfur medium (NSM) as a sole sulfur source for growth within 10 days of incubation. The effects of some growth parameters on endosulfan biodegradation by OG2 wa...

Antimicrobial Resistance Pattern of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Isolates from a Tertiary Care Setting in Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Introduction: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is intrinsically resistant to many antimicrobials. Like Pseudomonas spp., this bacterium has a remarkable ability to cause infections, particularly in the respiratory and urinary tracts. This study aims to determine the antimicrobial resistance pattern of S. maltophilia isolates collected from a tertiary care setting and frequency of multi, extensively...
